This LHD E-Type Series 1 3.8 Roadster is a late flat floor manufactured in January 1962 and despatched to the USA. The colour scheme was Dark Green with Biscuit Trim with a Sand hood.
The C&E 386 (import document) tells us it was brought back to the UK in 1989 and this date is supported by the Jaguar Heritage Certificate which was issued in 1989.
When we acquired the car it had been languishing in a garage in Droitwich for at least 10 years but there is no indication of where it spent the ‘missing’ 20 years in the UK.
What we can say with some confidence is that it seems to be largely original and there is no evidence of it having been ‘messed with’.
The engine, cylinder head, gearbox, rear axle & suspension all look to be original. The numbers all match the Heritage Certificate and look to be original stampings. Even the casting date on the cylinder block is correct.
The body tag, correctly positioned for a 1962 car in the left hand side of the boot, looks to be original but the last two digits are the opposite way round to the number on the Heritage Certificate. This discrepancy was fairly common and is referred to in the Anders Ditlev Clausager book Factory-Original Jaguar E-Type.
Unadulterated cars are becoming very difficult to find and this represents a perfect starting point for a full restoration.
It is our intention to restore it when time allows and the price is for the finished car. However our workshops are very busy at the moment so work is unlikely to start anytime soon.
This is a great opportunity to secure the vehicle and have it rebuilt to your personal specifications.
